Head of Department: Shainaz Lateef
Teachers: Nileshni Kumar, Fazilat Khan
Home Economics is a field of study which deals with our young minds in today’s contemporary society. In recent years a lot of changes has taken place in the subject due to the changes in the lifestyle, climate and social issues; which is of a great concern in our daily lives. It is encouraging to note that students are very much challenged to reach their full potential and take up Home Economics up to Year 13 Certificate Examination.
The department comprises of three very capable and dedicated members; Mrs Shainaz Lateef, Mrs Fazilat Khan and Mrs Nileshni Devi Kumar.
With the hardwork of these teachers we were able to achieve 100% in Y13CE AND Y12CE.
Department happenings:
Completion of theory, research project, design folio, practical cooking and garment construction.
TVET week – organized in WEEK 10 of Term 3. Students participated in two categories; junior and senior. Junior was further divided into Year 9 and Year 10. Students participated in preservation and enterprising
Enterprising Activities – students taking Home Economics carried out enterprising activities whereby they did baking and prepared other snacks and sold it to the students and teachers during recess and lunch. The key idea behind this is to teach our students how to make profit by running small business. The department was able to make profit and the money was used to replace some of the damaged appliances and some funds will be kept for next Home Economics week.
Preservation – students were engaged in making pickles and chutney some of which were sold to the students and staff members.
I would like to sincerely thank Allah (SWT) for giving us strength and good health so that we can prosper in the teaching and learning process, also acknowledge the department teachers for the work rendered towards the department and during school programs.
I also wish to express my heartfelt thanks to our Head of School and his administration team for their consistent guidance throughout. I would like to show my hearty appreciation to the other staff members,
Mrs Shainaz Lateef
